Disaster Relief Applications Due August 24th

Federal disaster relief is coming to help many commercial fishing permit-holders. The Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission (PSMFC) will be administering the payments of three federal awards. For more information, you can visit their current disasters page.

Permit-holders and processors need to submit their applications to the PSMFC in Portland, Oregon or upload applications through the online portal before August 24th. Crew and subsistence users have until September 28th to submit their applications.

The PSMFC mailed out applications on June 26th, 2024. If you have not received a hard copy, email AKFishDisaster@psmfc.org to request an electronic copy. Once you have completed the application, you may either mail it to the commission or upload it online.

The PSMFC is distributing federal disaster awards for salmon fisheries in Chignik, Yukon & Kuskokwim, and Norton Sound. The application may contain pre-filled information indicating which of the four tiers permit holders are likely to qualify for, along with the base payment they might expect.

There is also assistance available for vessel crew, with applications due September 28th. Applicants will need an affidavit from the permit holder or vessel owner they worked with. All crew members need either a commercial crew license or a commercial fisheries entry commission permit for any fishery, and funds will be distributed based on the fishery and the number of applicants.

Please mark your calendar with these important dates and visit PSMFC to learn more about qualifying.
